Dartford v Fulham XI & VCD Athletic v Dartford XI

Dartford play their last pre season fixture on Saturday against Fulham XI before the much anticipated opening day of the season.

With the days counting down to the season opener at home to Alfreton Town on 10 August, the Darts take on the Cottagers who are likely to field a development team.

Tony Burman will look to give new loan signing Adam Birchall another run out following Tuesday’s 2-0 defeat against Charlton XI. The striker signed a permanent loan deal from Gillingham meaning he cannot be recalled, the 28 year old will be at Princes Park until 2 January 2014. Last season, Birchall scored one goal in four appearances and after a long term injury he is looking forward to a full season ahead of him.

On Tuesday night, Dartford impressed in the first half and went into the break level with the visitors but without a goal. Charlton Athletic missed a second half penalty before the spot kick taker, Joe Pigott opened the scoring moments later. A breakaway goal sealed victory for the Addicks courtesy of Adebayo Azeez.

The senior side are still looking for their first win having played six friendlies, drawing three and losing three. Over the last four games only Elliot Bradbrook has found the net. Over the summer, the Darts have netted just four times with the skipper getting three of the four goals.

Dartford continue their link up with Fulham after taking on two of their goalkeepers on loan last season. The impressive Marcus Bettinelli played 35 times keeping ten clean sheets whilst Hungarian keeper Csaba Somogyi guarded the net eight times and notched up four shut outs.

VCD Athletic v Dartford XI

Three days later a Dartford XI will play newly promoted Isthmian League Division One North side VCD Athletic at The Oakwood.

The Darts have only met the Vickers in friendly matches on six occasions, winning the last five  meetings. The last of those fixtures was a year ago on the Princes Park Community pitch where the home side won 3-1.

A young Dartford side played at Concord Rangers on Wednesday night and were a goal down before half time. Once dual registered with the Darts, striker Tony Stokes scored the opener. In the second half the hosts took the initiative with two goals from Jason Hallett and one each for Alex Osborn and Danny Glozier.  Bode Anidugbe scored a consolation for the Darts before Ade Osifuwa scored with the last kick, the 6-1 loss followed a 4-0 victory over Sutton Athletic on Sunday.

Uche Ibemere looks set to face his old side VCD Athletic, who finished runners up in the Kent League last term ending just two points behind champions Erith and Belvedere. Going into the last game level with Erith and Belvedere on points, the Vickers were held to a 0-0 draw at Lordswood. Meanwhile, the Deres under former Dartford striker Micky Collins took the title with a resounding 7-0 final day triumph over Dartford’s new tenants Greenwich Borough.

The Vickers return to the level they were at just a year ago when the club were controversially demoted due to not meeting ground requirements. The local club have won two Kent Premier League cups, a Kent League title and come runners up four times since the start of millennium. On top of their recent success the Vickers won the Kent Senior Trophy twice and reached the final in what has been the clubs best period.
