Dartford v Harrow Borough

Dartford are back in cup action this weekend with a home tie against Harrow Borough in the F.A Cup Second Qualifying Round.

The Darts will hope to repeat last season’s succesful cup run when they reached the First Round Proper for the first time in 21 years. Dartford succumbed to League Two side Port Vale after taking The Valiants to a well deserved replay.

Tony Burman managed The Darts to a sixth straight home win on Saturday so the team is full of confidence after defeating Tonbridge Angels 3-1, he spoke to PURE DFC and said: “I’m really pleased with the guys we know it was going to be a tough game. Staines and Tonbridge we knew were going to be tough games because on their day they are very good sides. We played really well and I think we are maturing as a side”.

Danny Harris scores a delightful goal

The squad is shaping up and with the fact Burman can ‘change things around’ during games this has added to more flexibility within the squad. On Saturday Danny Harris was able to come of the subs bench to score his obligatory goal against Tonbridge Angels.

Harrow Borough are looking to upset the odds and repeat last seasons exploits which took them a step further than Dartford. The London club beat Great Wakering Rovers (4-2), Redbridge (2-1), shocked Conference Premier side Eastbourne Borough (4-2) and fellow Conference South side Hampton and Richmond (2-1) in qualification. Harrow Borough were rewarded with a tie against the eventual League Two champions Chesterfield but it was a step too far when The Spireites won 2-0.

In the previous round this year Dave Anderson’s side managed to get past Southern League Division One Central side Marlow in a 2-0 victory. Garry Jones became a set piece specialist when he put the Londoners ahead from the penalty spot and doubled the lead from a free kick to ensure his team progressed to the next round.

The Boro have had a slow start to their Isthmian Premier League campaign. Winless in their first seven matches they won 2-1 against high flying Lowestoft Town, a team Dartford defeated at this stage in last seasons cup run. Since this suprise result Harrow have recorded a draw at home to Hastings United and a win away to Horsham. The Boro are unbeaten in three matches which has helped them move up to seventeenth position.

Dartford last met Harrow Borough two seasons ago when The Darts won the Isthmian Premier League title. A solitary goal from Alan Tait was enough to seal a 1-0 in April 2010 and complete a league double over The Boro. Earlier that season and almost two years to the day a brace by Lee Burns gave The Darts a 2-0 victory at Princes Park.

In the 2008/09 campaign it was Harrow that came out on top winning both fixtures. In November 2008, Cody McDonald gave The Darts a half time lead but The Boro come back to win 2-1 at home with goals from Kurt Morlese and Robin Shroot. In the reverse match Dean Fenton scored the only goal at Princes Park in March 2009.
